3/16 | Status Update on ADESA Auction Operations

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to escalate around the world, we are committed to keeping you safe and helping you navigate the challenges ahead. Varying conditions across our states and provinces have led to inconsistent national, regional and local requirements around travel, business operations and social interaction. And while we cannot anticipate exactly how the situation will evolve, there’s no question the uncertainty and pace of change will continue to impact our lives and work over the coming days and weeks.

To protect the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities, and to provide predictability and stability for our buyers and sellers, all U.S. and Canadian ADESA auctions will operate Simulcast-only sales through April 3, 2020. During this period, we are waiving seller and buyer Simulcast success fees to help facilitate the most active and successful sales possible.

Our teams across North America and Europe are working around the clock to ensure our marketplaces, technology and services remain operational and ready to serve you. We have expanded our digital buyer base by enabling thousands of traditional in-lane dealers with new online credentials and buying privileges. And we have deployed broad, multi-channel campaigns to ensure every dealer is aware of your inventory and highly engaged in your digital sales. As feasible and permitted by local requirements, our locations will remain open for dealers to conduct business and view inventory at any time other than during sale hours. As an additional safety precaution, however, we highly encourage your representatives to use our ADESA Simulcast Remote Seller capabilities to rep your vehicles during these sales.

I want to reinforce that KAR Global and our entire family of companies are here to support you, your companies and your business. While we have taken many proactive steps to mitigate and minimize the potential spread and disruption of the coronavirus, we know each of you are dealing with a unique set of circumstances and challenges at your own companies. Your business and partnership have always supported KAR, so if there is anything we can do to help you – remarketing related or not – please do not hesitate to reach out. We are all in this together.

Best Regards,

John Hammer,
Chief Commercial Officer, KAR Global and President, ADESA

3/13 | Status Update on ADESA Auction Operations

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve, KAR Global remains highly focused on protecting the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities. We have taken extensive, proactive measures to minimize the risk of exposure and mitigate any potential disruption to our operations and your business. At the same time, we are coordinating with our national, regional and local health agencies across North America and Europe to determine whether any adjustments to our operations, business hours or sales are warranted, recommended or required. And while our offices, branches and auctions remain open at the time of this communication, it is likely that over the next week or so, we will begin running many of our auctions in digital-only formats.

No decisions beyond our ADESA Seattle Simulcast sales have been made, but we are actively preparing for this and other potential scenarios across our 74 North American auction locations. Our sales and marketing teams are actively expanding and enabling our broad digital buyer-base and our technology teams have mobilized to ensure our platforms continue to support the most successful commercial sales possible. As stated in our previous message, our private label websites, ADESA.com, TradeRev and Simulcast platforms remain active, and will serve as safe, convenient and effective alternatives to in-lane sales whenever feasible. If you’d like to discuss ideas on how to further leverage these platforms for your business, please contact your account executive to arrange a discussion.

If local conditions require closing or significantly limiting our physical operations, we will communicate with you directly on any resulting impact to our locations and our contingency plans for your sales. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions or challenges we can assist with, please do not hesitate to reach out.

These are unpredictable times and the circumstances change nearly by the minute. I want to reinforce our commitment to you and to doing all we can to support your business. We are your partner, and we are here to help you navigate whatever challenges may arise now or in the future. Thank you for your understanding, collaboration and partnership; we greatly appreciate it.

John Hammer,
Chief Commercial Officer, KAR Global and President, ADESA

3/12 | KAR Global: COVID-19 Safety & Operations Update

I am writing to update you on KAR Global’s preparedness and response to the global coronavirus pandemic. Our priority remains protecting the health and safety of our employees, customers and communities and we believe it is responsible for us to take a cautious, proactive approach. Please know we are closely monitoring this situation across our geographies and have implemented plans to make sure our teams, marketplaces, technology and services remain ready to serve your needs.

Remote Workforce: Earlier today, we issued a communication to KAR Global employees recommending that they work from home if feasible. This is not in response to any specific or heightened risk, and our offices, branches and auction locations remain open and operational. But we implemented this temporary measure to further minimize the risk of exposure for those employees who can only perform their jobs onsite.

We have tested our technology and taken additional steps to ensure there is no disruption to your business or our service levels. Employees have received detailed instructions on how to access all of our systems and applications and are broadly equipped with videoconference technology to host and participate in meetings with you as scheduled or needed.

Location-Based Precautions: Within our operating locations, we have also implemented health and safety measures to keep our onsite employees and customers safe. The implementation of these measures may vary somewhat by location and geographic risk level, but generally include:

  • Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting efforts of all areas and surfaces;
  • Restricting non-essential visitors to our office locations (customers will be permitted on site at auctions and branches for normal business pursuant to local health authority guidance);
  • Encouraging heightened personal hygiene measures like washing hands, staying home when sick and cough and sneeze etiquette;
  • Discontinuing or limiting food services;
  • Evaluating social distancing measures including limiting large group meetings or gatherings and ensuring adequate spacing between workstations and work areas

Auction Sales and Operations: As the pandemic evolves, we are closely monitoring the guidance and recommendations of health agencies including the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Public Health Agency of Canada, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and the World Health Organization. If heightened measures or operational changes are mandated, or if we independently believe they are warranted, we will implement those changes and communicate those to you.

One primary focus is to increase enrollment and engagement across our digital platforms including our private label websites, ADESA.com, TradeRev and Simulcast. These virtual marketplaces are active and ready, and we have mobilized our sales, technology, marketing and auction teams to ensure your sales are as successful as possible. For example, ADESA Seattle began running Simulcast Only sales this week given the disproportionate impact of the virus in Washington State.

Travel restrictions: We have restricted all employee air travel and non-essential ground travel until further notice. This includes our participation in upcoming industry events and conferences as well as any planned customer meetings. Again, our teams are equipped with advanced videoconferencing technology and we encourage you to hold those meetings as scheduled via a virtual format.

Self-Reporting: We have also issued self-reporting guidance to employees who may engage in personal or leisure travel. Any employee who has recently traveled to, or plans to travel to, a country with a Level 2 or 3 Travel Health Notice specific to coronavirus as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is required to notify our human resources department. Our team has been trained to help assess their risk and whether any change to their work schedule or location is warranted. We have implemented the same self-reporting guidelines for any employee who has taken or plans to take a cruise, whether international or domestic.

Industry dialogue: We continue to engage in a productive industry dialog with the National Auto Auction Association and other industry partners and competitors to share experiences and best practices around coronavirus response. We believe partnership across all stakeholders will help our industry navigate the challenges and uncertainty ahead.

As this situation continues to evolve, we are committed to keeping you informed and minimizing any disruption to your business. If you have any questions regarding our approach or preparedness beyond this communication, please contact your account executive or sales representative. Thank you for your continued support and partnership; I am confident that together, we can successfully navigate any challenges that lie ahead.

John Hammer,
Chief Commercial Officer, KAR Global and President, ADESA

3/10 | Update on COVID-19 Coronavirus and KAR Global’s Commitment to Safety

To Our Valued Customers:

KAR Global is committed to protecting the health of our employees, customers and communities in all we do. Given the uncertainty around the COVID-19 Coronavirus, we have implemented plans to make sure our teams, marketplaces, services and technology remain safe, operational and ready to serve you. We’re not taking this action due to any specific threat, but we want to be proactive, and are prepared to respond as this situation evolves.

Our offices, branches and auctions remain open, but we are closely following guidelines set by the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and other national, state and local health agencies in determining how best to proceed. Additionally, we’ve taken preventive measures such as enhancing our cleaning efforts and reinforcing personal health guidelines like washing hands, staying home when sick and proper cough and sneeze etiquette. We have also stopped all air travel and non-essential vehicle travel through March 31, 2020, and equipped employees with technology to host live, virtual meetings with you anytime, anywhere.

If local conditions require closing or significantly limiting our physical operations, our digital marketplaces will continue to provide safe, convenient and effective alternatives to in-person sales whenever feasible. Last year, we sold over two million vehicles through digital platforms including our private label websites, ADESA.com, TradeRev and Simulcast. These virtual marketplaces are active and ready, and we have mobilized our sales, technology, marketing and auction teams to ensure your sales are as successful as possible. Due to the outbreak in Washington state, ADESA Seattle will be our first location to host “Simulcast Only” sales beginning this week.

We are also coordinating closely with the National Auto Auction Association and other industry partners to share information and best practices around coronavirus prevention, preparedness and response. We believe an open, collaborative dialogue with all stakeholders will help the industry best navigate the changing dynamics of this situation.

If you would like additional information on KAR Global’s approach, please contact your account executive or sales representative. And if we can help you solve any challenges your own business is experiencing due to the outbreak, please do not hesitate to ask. We remain committed to serving and supporting your remarketing needs and doing our part to keep our workplaces, people and communities safe. We continue to hope for the best, but are actively preparing for any potential scenario.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Regards,

John Hammer,
Chief Commercial Officer, KAR Global and President, ADESA
