In his role as president, Peter Kelly oversees all KAR business units and brands—including ADESA, AFC and TradeRev—and is responsible for KAR’s digital platforms and solutions. Leveraging his deep technology expertise, Kelly leads the development and delivery of next-generation products, services and capabilities and ensures KAR’s core businesses continue to innovate and evolve to meet the changing needs of customers. He is also charged with strategic and operational oversight of the company’s data as a service, information technology and sales and marketing functions.
Kelly joined KAR in 2011 through the acquisition of OPENLANE, the world’s leading online auction platform supporting private-label upstream programs for more than 40 OEM and financial institution brands. As co-founder, president and chief executive officer of OPENLANE, Kelly led the company’s strategic direction from the startup to the scaleup of what is now the leading online wholesale auction platform in North America. Over the past several years, he led the re-architecture of OPENLANE’s core technology and has grown transaction volumes to more than one million per year.
Most recently, Kelly served as chief technology officer of KAR and president of KAR digital services group. In this role, he was responsible for defining and implementing best technology practices across all business units, identifying and offering insight on appropriate technology-related investments, and tracking technology standards, industry trends and emerging innovations. In this role, he also oversaw the recent STRATIM and Clearplan acquisitions and advanced the company’s mobility, logistics and recovery solutions capabilities.
Prior to his work with OPENLANE, Kelly spent eight years managing engineering, construction and procurement projects for Taylor Woodrow, a U.K.-based construction and development firm. Kelly holds an engineering degree from University College Dublin and an MBA from Stanford University.
