Life at OPENLANE: Q&A with Sheri Russell, Digital Media Manager

Sheri started as a part-time contract email marketing specialist. Today, she is a full-time Digital Media Manager. Read more on her story and evolving career path with OPENLANE below in this Q&A style chat.

What has your journey at OPENLANE looked like?

In 2016, I came on as a part-time Email Marketing Specialist contractor position. Later, I was hired as full-time and wore multiple hats during this position. I created new processes – including how our marketing emails were run. I did graphic design and coding as well, which included anything from designing our marketing materials to running our websites. My contributions and role expansion was then recognized by our department leaders, and I moved up into my current digital media position.

What is something you are most proud of during your 5-year tenure here?

I would say that I became a manager a few years earlier than my personal goal.

What do you like the most about working at OPENLANE?

There’s room for growth. Furthering our education so we can do our jobs better is highly encouraged. My manager is incredibly supportive on this front. For instance, I’m doing a course right now that will help us pull multiple different avenues of data into our emails. It’ll give our customers a more holistic view of their journey when we combine these data entities. This helps the company, but it is all happening because my manager and department leaders are supportive of their team broadening their skill set.

I can say I have never been bored and some days can be downright challenging — but in a great way. There is always something new being requested, which I think in turn pushes each of us to constantly outperform ourselves, leading to team and company growth.

Also, OPENLANE is big on giving back to the community and company. It makes you proud to work for the company.

What’s a piece of advice for newcomers to the company?

Take everything one step at a time.

What is your favorite aspect of digital media that is integrated into your everyday work?

The flexibility of the job and all the different pieces of data and team members that come together to make it happen.
