At ADESA Canada, Gordie Munroe has now accomplished the goal he had always set out to do – become a Recon and Mechanical Services Manager. Read more about his accomplishments and story in our chat below.
What has your ADESA Canada journey looked like?
In 2010, I was hired as a technician. I had a dealership background and at times, it felt like I was not heard. On my journey with ADESA – my leaders have always listened to what I had to say. I owe my success to that and also the fact that we’re encouraged to be self-starters. After a few years on the job, I was put in a lead role and now I am a recon and mechanical services manager. Something that has always been a huge goal of mine.
What is something you are most proud of during your time with ADESA Canada?
I am most proud of how I surrounded myself with good people in my department. When I was given the opportunity to weigh in on a new hire – I was able to make the right decisions. My team is full of not just great performers but great people.
What do you like the most about working at ADESA Canada?
The fact that you’re heard and have a voice here. If you want to try something new or things aren’t going how you think they should – someone will always listen and help you take action. There is always a sounding board to bounce ideas off of.
What’s a piece of advice for newcomers to the company?
Keep an open mind and be positive because working in the shop is very different than in the retail world. But it’s different in a very positive way. Make sure to ask questions – maybe some you wouldn’t normally ask in the retail world. This place is very open and encourages learning and curiosity.
What is your favorite part of working at the shop?
Watching the progress on vehicles. You can start the day with a ton of work – which may sometimes even be a bit overwhelming. However, it always comes together. Seeing everyone play their own specific role in the progress of vehicles and watching your team navigate their tasks is awesome. We have some serious team players.
